A fire troupe or fire tribe is a group of fire dancers who have come together to work as a team. There are several reasons performers would form or join a fire troupe, These include peer camaraderie, Sharing of skills, Group practices sessions, Motivation and support from fellow members. Generally fire troupes come together to create a choreography that will include various fire arts like: fire dancing, fire breathing and fire eating. Ultimately working towards creating a staged show that will financially support the entire troupe.

It is generally accepted that it is easier to start a fire tribe with friends than it is to join an existing troupe. Joining an established fire troupe will generally entail an audition process where the performer has to demonstrate his/her fire arts. The more skilled the performer is in their fire arts the better chance they stand of being accepted. The level of confidence, performer ability and performance experience also plays an important role in accepting a candidate.
Being in a fire tribe is much like being in a circus family. The most common thing people do is practice together. It takes a lot of time to learn certain moves, and a lot more time to learn how to work them into a routine with other people involved.
Practicing partner moves is also a good reason to get involved with a fire troupe. Once a level of trust has been built between two people, they can practice intricate choreographies, often with the fire coming very close to another person's head or body.
Solo Fire Dancers are free to perform with any group or company they please. Being true freelance performers they are not tied down to one single company or troupe. Working solo can also be difficult especially if you have not yet established a name for yourself in the industry. Ultimately there is no limit to what you can achieve as a solo performer but is generally easier to work with a troupe. Generally professional fire dancers work towards being part of a larger show or even rise to the prestige level of a Cirque Du Soleil artists.[1]
